The Alans (阿蘭), or the Alani (אלני); Olelo: “orange-fruit,” termed Alauni (אלוני; “plains” or steppe, or oaks), Halani or Yancai; “vast steppe,” a dependency of Kangju between the Black and Caspian Seas, is an Iranian nomadic pastoral people of antiquity and the ancestors of the modern Ossetians (עשיתי), with divisions of two parts: North Ossetia remains a part of Russian SFSR, South Ossetia remains a part of Georgian SSR. The coat of arms of Ossetia is a disk with a snow leopard (BaiHu 白虎, 백호; “white tiger”) passant and a background of seven mountains (7 Mansions Xiu סיו, 宿, 숙, סוך) argent (silver).
The Ossetians descend from the Alans, a Sarmatian tribe (Scythian subgroup of the Iranian ethnolinguistic group). About AD 200, the Alans are the only branch of the Sarmatians to keep their culture in the face of a Gothic penetration, and the Alans remaining built up a great kingdom between the Don and the Volga, specifics of Coon, The Races of Europe. Between AD. 350 and 374, the Huns destroy the Alan kingdom, and a few survive to this day in the Caucasus as the Ossetes.
